This blurry footage showing the tragic moment a teenager tries to jump on a moving tractor and is crushed under one of its huge rear wheels has been released as a warning of the dangers of farm machinery.

The shocking incident was captured on the smartphone of a friend of 19-year-old Huseyin Alkan in the Sanliurfa province of south-eastern Turkey.

Huseyin had been trying to jump off the back of the tractor, run around the side, and climb back into the driver’s seat as the vehicle continued its way across a field.

But the footage shows him slip and go under the tractor’s rear wheel. He was rushed by ambulance to the Sanlıurfa Training and Research Hospital but doctors were unable to save him and he later died.

The teenager and a friend had been ploughing a field when they decided to have some fun by jumping off the tractor and then back on it while it was still moving.

Huseyin tried to get back into the driver’s seat while his friend filmed the action with his smartphone but he failed as his pal’s video tragically shows. The footage was reportedly released online to warn others of the dangers when operating heavy farm machinery.

Police have launched an investigation into his death which is still ongoing. Huseyin’s body has been transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute in Sanliurfa for an autopsy.

Sanliurfa Province is an important agricultural area where hundreds of miles of state-funded irrigation works have created large areas of highly fertile land.

The province is also famous among followers of three major religions – Christianity, Judaism and Islam – as the birthplace of the prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) and the tomb of the prophet Job (Ayyub).
