Top lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret has been slammed by netizens for describing this apparently thin new model as “curvy”.
Lorena Duran is a 26-year-old model from the southern Spanish city of Seville who was presented as Victoria’s Secret’s new model last year.
A photo of the model, who reportedly wears a size 42-44, was accompanied with the message: “This is Lorena Duran, Victoria’s Secret’s new curvy Spanish model.”
The Victoria’s Secret post was recently retweeted by netizen ‘Jororlo’ where it was ‘liked’ 40,000 times.
The Twitter user said: “Curvy model. What a load of bullsh*t.”
Believing that Duran was being pitched by Victoria’s Secret as a plus-sized model, netizens quickly rounded on the American lingerie company.
‘AngelssCurvy’ commented: “If she’s curvy, I have to be rotund!”
‘FranticStAnger’ said: “Curvy? That is what we used to call ‘real women’ and not sticks like all the others.”
‘Arigargras’ wrote: “Curvy doesn’t mean she’s fat, for God’s sake. You guys have exaggerated the word. She’s obviously a little larger than the usual ones, and that’s it!”
Meanwhile, other netizens said that is common for models who wear a size 42 or above to be considered curvy or possibly plus-sized.
Following the backlash, Duran responded on her Instagram account for her 140,000 followers: “I’ll start by explain the definition of curvy for the 739272610th time.
“Curvy = a woman with curves and proportionate figure. Curvy does not mean ‘fat’, curvy means a healthy woman who stands out from the familiar standard size.”
