This is the moment an American tourist is confronted by a knife gang in an Istanbul side street and is fatally beaten and stabbed.

Leonard Samuel Ray, age not disclosed, arrived in the Turkish city of Istanbul 20 days before the attack.

He was walking with his friend, name not reported, in the city’s Sehit Muhtar district at around 5.50am on 26th December when several individuals approached them.

As seen in the CCTV footage, one group member apparently bumps into Ray intentionally and he apologises and tries to back away.

However, the suspects attack him and his friend and one suspect reportedly stabs Ray in the thigh.

Ray was taken to hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators tracked the group’s movements after the alleged knife attack and said they fled on foot for a while before getting in a taxi.

Four suspects, identified as, Ferhat K., E.A., M.K.O., and T.D., were arrested and taken into custody. Their ages were not reported.

The police are continuing to look for a fifth suspect identified as B.Y., according to reports.

After the police took the suspects’ statements, three were released with judicial restrictions while Ferhat K., suspected of stabbing the American victim in the leg, has been kept in custody.

The investigation into the incident continues.
