The footage shows Russian troops being targeted by Ukrainian ordnance on the battlefield and in trenches.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February 2022 and 8th March 2024. Russia had lost approximately 422,310 personnel, 6,706 tanks, 12,798 armoured combat vehicles, 10,375 artillery units, 1,011 multiple launch rocket systems. 704 air defence systems, 347 warplanes, 325 helicopters, 7,998 drones, 1,919 cruise missiles, 26 warships, 1 submarine, 13,598 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 1,656 units of special equipment.

The images were obtained from the 56 Separate Motorized Infantry Mariupol Brigade oof the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on Thursday, 7th March, along with a statement saying: “Although fireworks are banned in Ukraine, the occupiers regularly see them at their positions. Usually, they don’t see anything else after that. Our UAV operators regularly help them with this.”

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a decree to discharge conscripts who have been serving in the war against Russia into the reserves within the next two months.

This provides relief for service members who have been in the military since before the Russian invasion in February 2022. Those discharged are exempt from further call-ups for 12 months.

In his Presidential State of the Union address, US President Joe Biden criticised Donald Trump’s approach to Russia and vowed continued support for Ukraine, stating: “We will not walk away.”

Biden reiterated his call for a USD 95 billion aid package for weapons to Ukraine and aid to Israel, which has faced opposition from Republican House speaker Mike Johnson. He warned against underestimating Putin’s intentions, emphasising that Putin will not stop at Ukraine.

Russia and Ukraine have exchanged drone attacks, with Ukraine’s air force reporting that Russia fired 37 Iranian-type Shahed kamikaze drones and three missiles. Ukrainian forces reportedly shot down 33 Shahed drones in various regions.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defence said that 16 Ukrainian drones were intercepted inside Russia, with 15 over the southern Volgograd region and one in the Belgorod border region.

The UK has provided 10,000 drones to arm Ukraine in its fight against Russia. The weaponry includes 1,000 kamikaze drones and models targeting ships.

The Russian FSB reported that a Belarusian man planning “an act of terrorism” for Ukraine has killed in Karelia. He reportedly intended to blow up an administrative building in Olonets, near the Finnish border.

The EU’s largest political party, the EPP, has endorsed Ursula von der Leyen for a second term leading the Commission. Von der Leyen cautioned against the rise of populists in the upcoming elections and Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine.

EU lawmakers have approved extending access for Ukrainian food producers for another year, rejecting proposed amendments that could have imposed restrictions. The European Commission’s proposal to lift import duties and quotas on Ukrainian farm produce until June 2025 has been endorsed.
