This Turkish woman left a message in blood telling police it was her husband that had shot her, and then telling her son not to be sad as she was finally escaping his violent rages.

She had been shot when she asked for a divorce and suffered horrific injuries that left her unable to get up off the floor.

But she was determined to make it clear who had shot her, and wanted her son to know she loved him, and not to regret what had happened.

The shocking incident took place in the Zeytinburnu area of the Turkish city of Istanbul where husband Ragip Canan is alleged to have shot his wife Nurtac Canan when she asked for a divorce.

Canan reportedly opened fire on his wife when she began packing her things. He then ran away with her phone and credit card before calling his son saying that she was hurt and asking him to check on her.

The unnamed son then found his mother on the floor with a message written in blood reading: “Ragip shot me. Don’t be sad. I’m free now.”

Her son took her to hospital, where she underwent surgery which despite her severe injuries saved her life. The domestic violence victim, who has been married for 23 years, said she has suffered several attacks during that time, including having been burnt with boiling water, according to reports.

She says that she had never filed a complaint with the police against her husband out of fear, but she is now scared he wants to “finish what he started” and kill her, prompting finally a complaint.

Nurtac said her husband had threatened to “leave her disabled” if she tried to leave him and she believes “he won’t give up until he kills me”.

The husband has since been arrested and been charged with attempted murder.

He is being held in Metris Prison and it is unclear if a trial date has been set.

Women dying at the hands of their male partners is reportedly a widespread issue in Turkey and at least 91 women have been murdered in the country so far this year.
