This adorable two-year-old boy has tragically died after he was swept away by floodwaters while he was playing in front of his home.

The incident took place during heavy rainfall in the municipality of Itupiranga in the northern Brazilian state of Para.

Luiz Davi Silva de Abreu was found by locals around 1 kilometre (0.6 miles) from his home an hour later.

According to the report the family made at the local police station, the youngster went missing in the early afternoon outside his family home, with officers and locals swiftly joining in the search for the missing toddler.

However, the search ended abruptly when a local resident told the police he had found the boy’s body in a ravine.

The police cordoned off the area to wait for the relevant authorities to remove the body. However, because of the risk that the water level would rise and the boy would be washed away a second time, the cops removed the body themselves and took it to a mortuary before coroners collected it.

Itupiranga, located just south of the equator, has a tropical climate whose summer months are marked by heavy rainfall, with more wet days than dry days.
