This is the moment a brave traffic cop is sent flying after stepping into the path of a speeding car to try and force it to stop.

The incident took place on the R217 motorway in Russia’s Dagestan Republic region in the south-west of the country and was captured on surveillance footage.

Footage shows the road traffic cop trying to stop the speeding Mercedes Benz and instead of slowing down and pulling over, its driver runs the cop over, sending him flying into the air.

The collision was that hard that the cop flew on the other side of the car, with the hit-and-run driver then speeding off.

The policeman, whose name is not reported, was taken to a local hospital and diagnosed with a closed head injury as well as bruises. But he is expected to survive.

Local police needed a few hours to find and capture the driver, 24, who was not named but is from the town of Kizilyurt in the Republic of Dagestan.

Local media report that there was a passenger inside the Mercedes at the time of accident.

The investigation is still ongoing but it is unclear what sort of sentence the driver might receive or why the police officer wanted to stop the car.

Netizen ‘merovsky.333’ said: “But look at that cop, he got into the motorway himself.”

Another one ‘tuljuk’ added: “This poor kid will now get jailed because of the stupid cop.”

While ‘gasanov_dhzabrail’ commented: “This guy needs to be punished really strict.”
