A cute infant macaque is being treated by vets after shocked tourists spotted the injured monkey with a bone protruding from under its fur.

The incident took place outside the city of Chengdu in the southern Chinese province of Sichuan when tourists were climbing Mount Emei, one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China.

The mountain is home to a community of macaques and tourists spotted one infant with a bone protruding from its right arm.

In the video footage, the young macaque is seen sitting on a wooden fence next to another ‘Old World monkey’.

The infant’s arm is dangling by its side with a bone protruding at the wrist while it uses the other to hold the injured limb.

Even though the animal is probably in a great deal of discomfort, it appears receptive to the gathered tourists and reportedly accepted food and titbits.

Mount Emei visitor Seve Qiqi shared the clip on social media and informed park rangers about the injured macaque.

According to local media, a park official found the injured infant the next day and took it to the Leshan Wildlife Rescue Station.

The ranger said: “There are many possible reasons for its injury, maybe an accidental fall or fighting with others.”

The park official added that it will be returned to the group once it recovers from the injury.
