This is the moment security cameras capture a woman walking through a car park during a storm seconds before a tornado tears a chunk off a building and sends it crashing to the ground where she was moments before.

The footage of the mass of debris crashing to the ground during the storm was captured in the commune of Lurano in the province of Bergamo in the Italian region of Lombardy on 8th July.

What started as an afternoon rainstorm quickly turned into a hailstorm with heavy winds.

A surveillance camera located at the square near the sports field captures the woman walking through a car park with an umbrella in her hands, braving the harsh weather.

Seconds later, the area is hit by so a strong tornado, leaving trees and building debris on the spot where the woman was moments before.

The debris left by the tornado included metal poles and wooden beams that would have caused serious damage if the woman had still been there.

Initial reports indicate that while there was extensive property damage, nobody was seriously injured.

Local media reported that there has been severe damage caused by the tornado that still needed to be assessed.

An official statement has not been made to the public yet, but reports said that the mayor, Ivan Riva, intends to make a request for emergency funds to deal with the cleanup and repairs.
