This is the moment a suspected drink-driver on a scooter being pursued by police falls off his bike before getting back on and crashing face-first into a concrete wall.

The suspect, who was identified by his surname Hsieh, was spotted by the two patrolling policeman in the township of Caotun in Central Taiwan’s Nantou County.

The authorities said Hsieh, 35, was smoking a cigarette while riding fast and then slow on Taiping Road, arousing their suspicions.

When they approached to question him down, Hsieh allegedly revved his scooter and fled into a nearby alleyway.

CCTV footage of the chase at just after 11pm local time on 26th June shows Hsieh racing out of a side street and immediately falling off his scooter.

He loses his helmet in the process but quickly jumps back on his scooter and rides away as he spots the two officers closing in with their squad car.

The video shows police lights flashing as Hsieh tries to shake off the cops in one of the town’s narrow alleyways.

But the clip shows him thwarting his own escape by crashing head-on into a local resident’s concrete wall.

In the video, the impact throws Hsieh off his scooter and his face slams against the wall with force.

He falls to the ground as officers catch up with him, but the cops do not immediately arrest him; instead, they stand nearby and watch as he holds his smarting forehead and bleeds on the ground.

Hsieh was detained for drink-driving and evading justice..

The authorities said he was taken to a local hospital where doctors confirmed he suffered no serious injuries – and a toxicology test showed he was over the legal driving limit.

His scooter has been written off.
