Top Putin Aide Compares US Riots To Hit Film Joker

Russian aide to Vladimir Putin and former culture minister Vladimir Medinsky has compared the George Floyd riots taking place in the US to the hit film ‘Joker’.

Medinsky, 49, admitted that he was left with negative emotions after watching Todd Phillips’ 2019 blockbuster ‘Joker’ starring Joaquin Phoenix, and he drew attention to the hype surrounding the movie’s release at the time.

On 1st June, the Russian president’s aide posted images of the ongoing US riots with a clip from ‘Joker’.

He accompanied the video with the message: “Remember when some people did not agree with me?”

Medinsky is a politician, academic and publicist who served as Minister of Culture from May 2012 to January 2020. He is a member of the General Council of the United Russia party.

He has been described as a “nationalist enamoured of classicism and traditional values” and he reportedly supports the removal of Vladimir Lenin’s body from the Lenin’s Mausoleum to bury it.

Medinsky also believes that Stalin statues should be erected in places where the majority of local people are in favour of it.
