This is the moment a brazen young man steals from a Muslim worshipper in a packed mosque during evening prayers.

The incident was filmed by a mosque CCTV camera in Ampang, a historic town and district of Kuala Lumpur, in the western Malaysian state of Selangor and the video was posted on Twitter where it has been viewed 111,000 times.

According to local media, the incident happened during Maghrib prayer which takes place just after sunset and is the first of five obligatory daily prayers (salat) performed by practising Muslims.

Reports said that the victim was a lorry driver who had just finished work when he stopped at the mosque to pray.

He reportedly lost his phone, cash, some clothes and personal documents.

In the footage, the congregation is seen bowing on the mosque floor just before a man in a white T-shirt springs to his feet and deftly grabs two bags from a devotee.

He then walks out of the mosque while apparently under the view of a man standing at the back who does nothing to stop the suspect.

Reports said that the police are still searching for the alleged thief and have asked anyone with information to contact Sergeant Nurhaziq Norizan.
