A 35-year-old woman has been arrested for setting her ex-boyfriend’s car alight with a Molotov cocktail and a rubbish bin.

The incident took place in the city of San Antonio in the US state of Texas on Sunday 14th November.

According to the affidavit, the suspect was due to be evicted from her ex-partner’s home and she spent the night with a friend on Saturday.

At around 5.20am on Sunday morning, the suspect was filmed driving next to the victim’s vehicle by CCTV cameras with the police saying: “A Molotov cocktail is observed being thrown next to the victim’s vehicle.”

She reportedly missed the car with the Molotov cocktail and drove off, returning a few minutes later and parking about 20 feet from her ex’s car.

The police said she set fire to a small rubbish bin with petrol and placed the burning object under the victim’s vehicle.

The police said “the defendant is then seen walking back to her vehicle” before fleeing the scene.

When the victim saw the two blazes, he drove his car away, however the vehicle had already reportedly sustained damage to the tyres and driver’s side.

The affidavit said that the suspect told officers she bought USD 1 of petrol for the Molotov cocktail and returned to the scene because she missed with it.

The police said: “The defendant admits to buying gasoline worth approximately USD 1 at a corner store near the fire site and then pouring the gasoline into a plastic bottle with material on the neck of the bottle.

“Then the defendant stated that she wanted to change her mind about what she had done and returned to the scene.”

She is quoted as saying that she was angry about the “treatment she received from her during their six-year relationship”.

The investigation continues.
