This fireball was once reportedly a Tesla which apparently crashed on autopilot after failing to avoid a tow truck parked on a busy road.

The footage was shot by a car coming from the other direction on the busy Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) around the Russian capital.

The accident occurred at about nine in the evening on August 10 at the 37th kilometre of the Moscow Ring Road according to local media.

It was reported that the Tesla crashed at speed into a tow truck which was parked in order to take away a stalled passenger car. It was suggested that the tow truck was in the shadow of a bridge which made it hard to identify.

It was also reported that the Tesla was travelling on autopilot, and failed to identify the parks tow truck in front of it and take avoiding action early enough.

The electric car, which was driven by a 41-year-old businessman Alexei Tretyakov, General Director of Russian “Aricapital” Management Company, then struck the side of the tow truck and caught fire a short while later.

Eyewitnesses helped the driver and his children get out of the car before the fire completely engulfed the vehicle.
