These images show how taxi drivers have parked their vehicles across a motorway to keep tourists out of their city amid the Coronavirus outbreak.
The blockade took place on the motorway between the Colombian capital of Bogota and the city of Villavicencio in the Department of Meta in central Colombia.
According to local media, several taxi drivers blocked the motorway by making a barrier with their vehicles before the tollbooth to go into Villavicencio.
A taxi driver whose name has not been reported told local media: “We are meeting up to support our governor and our mayor. We do not want tourists to visit us at this time. We don’t have the budget or the hospitals to face this disease.”
Reports said that the taxi drivers gathered after a rumour spread that the bus lines between Bogota and the city had stopped running due to an increase in the number of passengers.
The Manager of the Bogota Transport Terminal Maria Carmenza Espitia told local media: “There is a normal flow of passengers. The operations are normal. We have had no increase, on the contrary, we have seen a decrease of 12 percent in our operations.”
