These two schoolgirls have been arrested after they broke into a flat to steal money and beat the elderly resident to death in a three-hour-long ordeal.
Yulia, 14, and Karina, 16, surnames not reported, allegedly beat the unnamed man, 60, to death in the village of Oktyabrsky in the district of Vaninsky in Russia’s far-eastern Khabarovsk Krai.
The incident took place between Thursday night and Friday morning (9th-10th December).
According to local reports, the teens broke into the man’s apartment, took RUB 10,000 (GBP 100), and beat him for three hours straight.
A neighbour reportedly rushed over to the scene upon hearing the ruckus, and the teenagers also attacked her. The unnamed woman then managed to escape and called the police.
After a team of police officers was dispatched to the scene, the teens reportedly threatened to turn on the gas and kill the cops, but they failed to follow through on their threat.
The victim, whose internal organs were reported to have been severely damaged, was admitted to a medical facility, but he later died of his injuries.
The teens were arrested, and their preventive detention was authorised by a court.
In an interview with local media following the incident, an unnamed male friend implied the girls may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the alleged crime because they often drank.
He also said one of the girls had a tough family background, with her stepfather allegedly having tried to rape her and with the girl and her mother frequently quarrelling.
The girls have been charged with ‘causing grievous bodily harm resulting in death’ and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
