This is the moment a Brazilian teacher shows up at a school parade in a Ku Klux Klan outfit, prompting his immediate suspension.
The incident was filmed at the Amaral Wagner School in the municipality of Santo Andre in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.
In the video, which was widely circulated on social networks, the teacher is seen walking through the school courtyard in the Ku Klux Klan outfit.
According to the news site G1, the incident took place during a fancy-dress parade to mark the end of term.
The school’s student union explained that the man is a history teacher, and that he dressed that way without anyone at the school knowing beforehand.
The union said: “When the teacher entered the field where the parade was taking place in that clothing, he was booed and taken away by students.”
The student union said it also urged the teacher to remove the outfit and referred the incident to the school board, adding that it rejects “any type of prejudice and discrimination”.
The school authorities reportedly quizzed the history teacher and informed all staff members that “the school does not agree with any racist or prejudiced attitude, thought, or idea”.
The Sao Paulo Education Department has opened an investigation into the incident and started procedures for “the immediate removal of the teacher involved”, at least until the probe is concluded.
The education board also formed an interracial commission to learn more details about the incident.
