A speeding motorist in Germany whose pals allegedly made racist joked about an Egyptian student as she lay dying on the ground after they ran her over has been given a one-year suspended sentence.

The tragedy happened in April 2017 when the car driven by the now 22-year-old man from Dresden was travelling over the speed limit in the German University city of Cottbus in the state of Brandenburg.

Eyewitnesses said that passengers in the man’s car had mocked the dying young woman, who was identified only as Shaden M. because of local privacy laws.

One friend is supposed to have said: “P*ss off back to your own country, then you wouldn’t be run over you bl*ody asylum seeker.”

Another allegedly added: “I realise that where you come from there are no proper streets, but in Germany you need to recognise that there are roads.”

They also reportedly laughed at their ‘jokes’ as she battled for life in a pool of blood on the ground, reports German media.

The court heard that the young woman was hit by the driver’s car in a zone where the speed limit was just 30 kph although he had been speeding at well over 50 kph, according to reports.

The 22-year-old was charged with causing accidental death and received a one-year suspended sentence. However, the defence said the case should have been thrown out.

The indictment specified the speed of 50 kph but the judge said: “We believe they drove over 50 kph.”

They also added that the court had been “shaken” by the lack of compassion the defence displayed during the court process.

They said that there had been no apology from the accused to the family of the dead woman and this was long overdue, according to local media.

The court heard that her family were devastated by the news, and mother had never got over the loss of her child.

They also said that they did not want to attend the trial because the defence lawyer had behaved so disrespectfully over what happened, according to reports.
