Newborn Tapir Cub Is Lucky 13th Born Worldwide This Year In Captivity

This is the moment a baby tapir explores its enclosure in the Copenhagen Zoo, and seeks refugee under its mum.

The tapir arrived to the world in Copenhagen Zoo, located in Frederiksberg, a part of the Capital Region of Denmark in the early hours of 3rd November, 2020.

The video shows the brownish baby tapir with white dots and stripes in the enclosure, with its mum, exploring and walking over hay.

The tapir gets under the mum, seeking protection and maternal care, as most baby mammals do.

Jacob Munkholm Hoeck, in charge of press and media of Zoologisk Have Kobenhavn told Clipzilla: “The tapir was born in the early hours of November 3rd in Copenhagen ZOO.”

“The mother was born in the Czech Republic in 2016 and has lived in Copenhagen ZOO since 2017. “

“The newborn tapir is her first.”

The father was born in Copenhagen ZOO in 2013 which was the last time a tapir was born in Copenhagen ZOO.

According to the official source, this is the 13th tapir born worldwide in the last 12 months.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List has listed the tapir as Endangered or Vulnerable.
