This elderly cat with organ problems – believed to be over 15 years old – has finally been adopted by a forever family so it can live out the rest of its life in tranquillity in a loving home.

The stray cat was found in the commune of Coulounieix Chamiers in the south-western French region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and rescued by members of the SPA animal shelter on 4th November.

The senior cat was then taken to a vet where it underwent treatment for six days before spending another fortnight at the shelter.

Shelter volunteers named the OAP feline Mumiah after the female guardian angel who symbolises perseverance, rebirth and regeneration.

According to shelter president Eliane Rigaux, the cat was in a serious condition and experts have done everything possible to give it as much quality of life as possible.

Due to having serious liver and kidney disease, the cat had to be fed special food and even received infusion therapy to speed up its recovery.

After two weeks, they finally received a call from a family in the area of Gironde who had seen their post on Facebook and was excited about bringing Mumiah home.

Eliane Rigaux told local media: “For us it’s a victory to have saved him.

“Now, it’s up to Mumiah to see if he wants to go that little bit further.

“In any case, he has an exceptional family that will offer him a lot of tenderness and affection.”
