Stunning Russian bellydancer Johara has sparked outrage by posing for snaps in front of an Egyptian mosque during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Johara, meaning Jewel, shared the images on Instagram for her 2.4 million followers.

The Russian beauty was snapped posing in front of the Al Mina Mosque in the city of Hurghada in Egypt’s Red Sea Governorate, the biggest and most famous of the country’s Red Sea mosques.

According to the news site Egypt Independent, the photoshoot caused outrage on social media despite the Russian stunner wearing a hijab and flowing white robe to cover her enviable curves.

The images, shared on her Instagram and Facebook accounts, show Johara standing in front of the Egyptian mosque while appearing pensive.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Awqaf, an Egyptian government body in charge of religious endowments, said visitors are advised against engaging in inappropriate behaviour, adding that the photos were taken in the outer courtyard and not inside the mosque.

Bashar Abu Talib, who heads the tour guide union in the Egyptian city, said: “Visiting Al Mina Mosque is part of Hurghada city tours that are organised for tourists to visit Islamic architecture and understand the teachings of Islam.”

Johara was arrested in Egypt in 2018 for wearing a costume considered too revealing after a video of her dancing was widely circulated on social media.
