An OAP husband has shot his wife dead before killing himself after the pair wrote a note saying they were tired of depending on their family.

The bodies of Jose Aedo, 94, and his wife, Blanca Saez, 86, were reportedly found by one of their granddaughters in the home they shared in the municipality of El Bosque, in the Chilean capital Santiago de Chile.

Police spokesman Eduardo Aros says it is believed Aedo shot his wife dead with a weapon legally registered in her name before turning the gun on himself.

A letter said to have been written by the couple, who had been married for 62 years, was found at the scene.

The letter said the couple had decided to kill themselves because they were tired of living and depending economically on their family of four children and seven grandchildren, according to reports.

Local media report that the letter said Blanca was also very ill.

According to neighbours and relatives of the couple, there are no records of there having been any violence between the pair and they are said to have lived a quiet life. They had recently gone to a medical consultation, according to reports.

Their grandchildren said that their grandparents loved each other and say they often talked of their wish of being together forever.

An unnamed neighbour told local media: “Everybody is shocked because we did not expect it. We could never have imagined that. They were married for so long, they have children and grandchildren that are adults.”

Police spokesman Aros said the authorities are investigating the letter.

According to preliminary investigations, the case will be treated as a homicide and suicide as the husband is believed to have killed his wife.

The investigation is ongoing.
