This is the moment a star elephant obediently offers its foot to a zookeeper and patiently undergoes a pedicure during COVID-19 lockdown.
La Aurora Zoo in the southern Guatemalan capital Guatemala City wanted to show followers how the animals are being cared for during COVID-19 lockdown and they posted the clip on Facebook where it has been viewed 110,000 times.
In the footage, 59-year-old star attraction Trompita the elephant is seen enjoying a pedicure and a hygiene examination.
The cute elephant, considered a local celebrity, willingly offers the zookeeper its foot before being rewarded with some carrots for its good behaviour.
Zoo vet Alejandro Striegdinger said: “Due to its advanced age, caring for its feet is vital. Any growing irregularities or affected areas need to be treated because its legs are very sensitive.”
According to local media, the zoo decided to share the clip after numerous visitors enquired about the animals’ wellbeing during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Netizen ‘Vilma Bran’ wrote: “What a special job you have, and the obedience of the elephant is something to admire.”
