This is the moment legendary Spanish singer Joaquin Sabina falls from the stage and is stretchered off in front of a stunned crowd before bravely returning half an hour later in a wheelchair to address fans.

Reports said that Sabina was performing a concert at the WiZink Center in the central Spanish capital Madrid on the night of his 71st birthday.

The iconic artist was performing alongside fellow veteran singer Joan Manuel Serrat on the final night of his tour, according to local media.

Sabina fell off the stage about 30 minutes into the concert while introducing one of his hits.

Audience member Graciela told local media: “During a moving moment of his speech, he looked down and stepped while talking and he literally disappeared. It seemed like the stage swallowed him whole.”

Security staff and medics rushed to help the elderly singer and one video clip shows him being stretchered away in front of the crowd.

Spectator Isabel said: “It was horrible, the place was in total silence.”

Organisers told the audience that they were checking the star’s injuries, and he was brought onto stage in a wheelchair around 30 minutes after falling, according to reports.

As seen in the video, he was accompanied by Joan Manuel Serrat and Sabina said: “I have a strong blow on my shoulder that hurts me lot and forces me, with pain in my heart, to postpone.”
