A reality TV star has sparked outrage after revealing that she is trying to make peace with the souls of 11 babies she has had aborted.
Entertainer Zodwa Wabantu, 36, has a huge fanbase across southern Africa and online.
But her latest revelation on her show ‘Zodwa Wabantu: Uncensored’ on 8th October has stunned fans and led to her being branded a baby “serial killer”.
Wabantu told her followers that a spiritual leader had told her to perform a series of rituals to finally lay her unborn children to rest.
She revealed how she was told that in order to appease their spirits, she had to buy clothes for all of her unborn children.
Wabantu – who is a mother to a teenage son named Vuyo – was told that she also had to perform ‘cleansing rituals’ for the spirits of the “departed children”.
The holy man reportedly told her: “If a child passed away because of a miscarriage you need to acknowledge and cleanse that child. That child is also treated as a child that is living.”
He also added that it was immensely important for a person to acknowledge, cleanse and speak to these children.
While shopping for clothes in preparation for the cleansing ceremony Zodwa said: “Me to you, the number of abortions I have done in my entire life is about 11.”
She then bought clothes in various colours including blue, pink and yellow as she never learnt the gender of any of the foetuses.
Wabantu and the sangoma – a highly respected healer among the Zulu people of South Africa – then prepared sweets, biscuits and milk for the departed children.
Her confession triggered many comments on social media platforms.
Twitter user @MXO925GP commented: “Most women have a minimum of three to four abortions, and hide it forever until they get married and live their lives.
“I don’t like Zodwa Wabantu but I like how honest she is. She doesn’t fake anything. She owns up to her mistakes and shortcomings, most women don’t have that trait.”
Another user @mohetloa joked: “Messi broke the world record for scoring, Usain Bold broke the world record for running.
“Mohammed Ali broke the world record in boxing… Zodwa Wabantu holds the world record with 11 abortions.”
A third user @Blossie19 harshly criticised her by saying: “And she was counting. She is a certified serial killer.”
