The student daughter of a Turkish business tycoon found dead in her London flat suffered a cardiac arrest after switching to an all-fluid vegan diet, it has emerged.
Turkish media report that victim Leyla Ciftkurt, 24, had been on the liquid vegan detox diet before her death.
Leyla – who was studying drama and theatre at university – was found dead after her mother Asli Cetiner raised the alarm.
Her mother had been unable to contact her for two days and was horrified when university staff and friends said they had not seen her.
Leyla’s death was first reported in Turkish media, where her wealthy father Tahsin Ciftkurt is a partner in the Cifkurt Automotive business.
Asli Cetiner and Tahsin Ciftkurt reportedly flew to London after Leyla’s friends and the police reportedly went to her home and discovered her body.
Turkish media is now reporting a sudden cardiac arrest as the cause of death that could have been caused by an all-liquid diet she had been on.
Turkey’s Sabah newspaper writer Bulent Cankurt broke the news of the Leyla’s death last week.
He wrote: “Yesterday at noon, I received very sad news. Leyla Ciftkurt, the 24-year-old daughter of Asli Cetiner, one of the famous names of the high society, with businessman Tahsin Ciftkurt, was found dead in her home in London, where she was studying at university.
“When her mum Asli did not hear from Leyla for two days, she called her university in London, and was told that she did not go to school, so she asked her friends for help.
“Leyla’s friends then had a great shock when they entered her house, accompanied by the police. Unfortunately, Leyla was found dead in her home. Destroyed by this sad news, Aslı flew to London yesterday.”
He added: “I wish God’s mercy on Leyla, who is mourned by her family and fans.”
