Singer Who Strangled Lover To Death And Then Faked Suicide Kept In Detention

A Brazilian singer accused of strangling his girlfriend to death and then faking her suicide has been arrested.

Cleverson ‘Kevyn’ Siebre, 27, who is accused of killing Tatila Istela Portugal Gomes, 24, was ordered remanded in custody on 8th February.

Kevyn was arrested two weeks after the death of his girlfriend at their home in the Brazilian municipality of Ariquemes in September last year.

The case was originally registered as suicide. However, evidence that contradicted the young man’s statement led to his subsequent arrest on charges of murder and deception.

Kevyn originally told the police that he and Tatila had just got back from a night out and had been drinking when they started to argue.

He said he left their apartment “to go for a walk” and when he returned, he found his girlfriend had hanged herself.

The singer said he asked a neighbour for help and they took the young woman to A&E where her death was confirmed.

However, a subsequent autopsy on Tatila’s body found that her injuries were not compatible with the rope she was alleged to have used, and investigators believed she was strangled to death.

Kevyn was arrested and his preventive detention was ordered following protests in Ariquemes from the victim’s family and friends, who held banners reading ‘Justice for Tatila’ and ‘It wasn’t suicide’.

Judge Larissa Pinho de Alencar Lima decided to maintain the accused’s preventive detention for “procedural” reasons.

Before his arrest and detention, Kevyn was one half of musical duo ‘George e Kevyn’.

If convicted, he could face between 12 and 30 years in prison.
