A mum who claims she put her daughter in the bin for safekeeping while she popped into a friend’s house has been arrested.

She claimed that she had no running water in her property and asked another person if she could use their sink to wash.

She said she left the baby in a bag on the bin while she quickly went upstairs. However, she claimed that she fell asleep when she got home and forgot about the tot.

The mother, name and age not disclosed, reportedly went on the run after waking up and seeing the news story about the abandoned baby.

The police were called when locals living on Orhan Gencebay Street in the city’s district of Ilkadim raised the alarm after going out to dump rubbish and hearing the crying sounds and finding the baby.

Police arrested the mother and the midwife after watching CCTV images.

Both are currently in custody on attempted murder charges and the mother, who was reportedly living at the address under a fake name, told journalists that she bitterly regretted dumping the baby.
