Cops say they have caught a woman convicted of raping, torturing and butchering a 12-year-old boy in a Satanic ritual after she went on the run seven years ago.

One of Argentina’s most wanted fugitives, 48-year-old Mabel Patricia Lopez, has been detained by officers of the Argentine Naval Prefecture in the town of Gonzalez Catan in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires.

Lopez was sentenced in 2011 for the rape, torture and murder of 12-year-old Ramon Ignacio Gonzalez (nicknamed Ramoncito) which took place during a Satanic ritual in the city of Mercedes in the north-eastern Argentine province of Corrientes in 2006.

The victim went missing on 5th October 2006 and his dismembered remains were found two days later with signs of sexual abuse.

In March 2011, eight people were sentenced for the crime while Lopez, who worked as a nurse, was initially absolved. However, the ruling was appealed and a court found Lopez guilty one month later, sentencing her to life imprisonment. An arrest warrant was issued, but Lopez had already fled the city, according to reports.

It was determined that the former nurse was responsible for drugging the boy before accomplice Daniel Alegre raped him and beheaded him under Lopez’s orders.

The autopsy revealed that the boy had been raped, impaled, had had a few of his vertebrae removed, and that he had been skinned and beheaded after dying during the ordeal.

His head was subsequently found in a different location by investigators.

At the time, the authorities said that the crime “mixed Satanic elements and afro-Brazilian rituals [named as Quimbanda in reports] and Hispanic-Guarani magic”.

Local media report the main goal of the ritual undertaken by the convicted child murderers was to be ‘purified’ by sacrificing the body of a young person ‘to the gods’.

Lopez is currently in police custody although reports did not mention when she will begin serving her sentence.

The other criminals involved in this case, who are all in prison serving life sentences, have been named as Yolanda Martina Ventura, 49, Esteban Ivan Escalante, 29, Jorge Carlos Alegre, 40, Cesar Carlos Alberto Beguiristain (aka ‘Carlitos’), 28, Claudio Nicolas Gonzalez (aka ‘El Porteno’ and ‘El Brujo’; – ‘brujo’ in Spanish means ‘wizard’), 26, Osmar Aranda, 60, Ana Maria Sanchez, 56, y Daniel Alegre, 31.

According to local media, a 14-year-old girl helped investigators to know more about the horrific crime because she had been forced to watch everything.
