A jilted sparky is being investigated for having sent a bomb hidden in a speaker to his ex-wife’s house, which suddenly exploded one night a month later.
Tugba Degirmencioglu, 35, who lives in the southern Turkish province of Mersin, broke up with her electrician husband of 14 years and father of her two sons last October.
Following the divorce, her ex-husband, identified as M. E., 40, allegedly sent her threats, and she reported him to the police, resulting in him being issued a restraining order.

The couple’s 13-year-old son Y. C.E., who, like his brother, was in his father’s custody, reportedly went to visit his mother in December.
The teen took the speaker his father had given him to his mother’s house in his schoolbag and left it there.
The speaker remained in the house for a month and reportedly exploded like a bomb while everyone was sleeping in the early hours of 21st January.

Tugba’s older brother and father, who were at home at the time, managed to extinguish the fire caused by the explosion.
Investigators and explosives experts went to the scene and seized the remains of the loudspeaker for analysis.
M.E. was arrested and denied all accusations against him in his statement to the police. He was later released on bail.

The couple’s other son Y. A.E., aged 8, told investigators: “My father had a speaker that worked with a remote control.
“I saw my father cut a plastic bottle he found in his shop, ran a wire through it, and then plugged the loudspeaker into a charger.
“A day later, my brother went to my mother’s house and left the speaker there.”

And his mother said: “My children’s custody is with their father. A month ago, my eldest son brought a bag and said he would later take the bag to school.
“He said ‘don’t touch the bag, don’t open it’. I left the bag behind the front door. I became curious when my son left, and when I opened the bag, I saw there was a speaker inside.
“A few days before the incident, my son took the speaker out of the bag and put it on the coffee table in the living room. He started charging the speaker. I unplugged it just in case.

“When my son didn’t return to pick the speaker up after a while, I put it back in his bag.
“The day before the incident, he came round in the evening and took the speaker out of the bag again and put it on the coffee table in the living room.
“He left the house, saying ‘I won’t come to this house again, forget about me’.”

“On the day of the incident, at around 3.30am, there were three loud explosions in the living room, where my brother and father were sleeping… After the explosions, a fire broke out. There was a cloud of think black smoke and a smell of petrol.
“Our curtains, sofa and air conditioning unit were burnt. As my brother and father were at home, we were able to put the fire out ourselves.”
Tugba believes a bomb was placed inside the speaker by her ex-husband and that her son knowingly brought it to her house.

She said: “I filed a complaint against my ex-husband and my son, because the bag was brought by my son. But I think it was planned by his father.”
The investigation is ongoing.
