The Russian woman on trial for cutting up her sedated Spanish OAP husband and feeding his body parts to her dogs while he was still alive has been found guilty of homicide.

According to local media, Svetlana Batukova, 49, originally from Russia, killed her husband Horst Hans Henkels, 70, in Cala Millor in the eastern Spanish region of the Balearic Islands in 2016.

The jury ruled that she was guilty of homicide and prosecutors are asking for a 14-year prison term.

Meanwhile, the defence team asked the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands for a 10-year term and the judge will sentence the defendant in the coming days.

The jury decided that Batukova cut her husband’s arms, but was unconvinced that she sedated him beforehand or that she cut off strips of flesh to feed to her dogs.

However, they did accept that the animals ate parts of the victim spontaneously after he had already died.

Therefore, the crime was considered a homicide and not murder, which is punishable with between 10 and 15 years in prison, according to reports.

Defence lawyer Bartolome Salas is asking for the minimum sentence while prosecutors now want a 14-year jail term after initially requesting 25 years.

They accused Batukova of sedating her husband, cutting parts of his flesh off to give to the dogs before encouraging them to feed on his body.

Batukova always claimed that the dogs latched onto her husband’s arm and ended up stripping much of the flesh away which caused the haemorrhaging that ultimately killed him.

The trial started on 10th June and took place over seven hearings with the defendant maintaining her innocence throughout, according to local media.
