This is the moment residents in a Chinese tower block clap and shout from their windows as officials announce an end to their 14-day quarantine period.

Hundreds of homeowners living in Block 12 at the Vanke Metropolis residential district in Guiyang, capital lf south-western China’s Guizhou Province, were ordered to self-isolate on 5th February.

It came after Block 12 resident surnamed Gao was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus, before the pensioner’s son, daughter-in-law, grandson and niece all tested positive for the disease known as COVID-19.

Block 12 residents were ordered to remain at home for two weeks, with access in and out of their building monitored by authorities in order to reduce the risk of spreading the deadly respiratory disease.

On 19th February, at the end of their quarantine, video taken by neighbours captured Block 12 homeowners clapping loudly and cheering from their balconies and windows.

The residents shouted with joy as health officials gave a notice saying no other neighbours in the building, or in the gated community as a whole, was diagnosed with COVID-19, reports said.

The novel coronavirus has so far claimed the lives of 2,592 people in mainland China and 27 others around the world.

The number of people infected by COVID-19 has reached 79,559.
