Russia Says It Has Hit Ukrainian Military Positions Using Self-Propelled Guns

Russia has said it has hit Ukrainian military positions using self-propelled guns on the frontlines near Kupiansk.

The footage shows one of the Russian war machines being prepared to fire before it opens fire, presumably on unseen Ukrainian positions.

The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence on Friday, 26th February, along with a statement claiming: “Artillery units of the Zapad Group of Forces are carrying out precision strikes on uncovered military facilities, positions, fortifications, armoured vehicles, and AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] manpower both day- and nighttime in Kupyansk direction in the special military operation zone.

“Artillerymen of the 1st Guards Tank Army of the Zapad Group of Forces conduct continuous combat work on open targets both day- and nighttime. Artillery fire is directed by reconnaissance units operating in direct contact with the enemy.

“2S5 Giatsint-S 152mm self-propelled gun crews destroyed camouflaged dugouts and AFU manpower while carrying out firing tasks in Kupyansk direction in the area of ​​the special military operation.”

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February 2022 and 26th February 2024. Russia had lost approximately 410,700 personnel, 6,555 tanks, 12,478 armoured combat vehicles, 9,993 artillery units, 1,000 multiple launch rocket systems. 686 air defence systems, 340 warplanes, 325 helicopters, 7,707 drones, 1,910 cruise missiles, 25 warships, 1 submarine, 13,037 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 1,580 units of special equipment.
