ROCK STARS: US Engineers Heavy Lifting Aims To Stop Flooding In California

This video shows U.S. Army engineers working to shore up we can river banks ahead of rough weather expected to pose the risk of flooding.

In the video, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and experts from the California Department of Water Resources can be seen attempting to show up to sites identified as suffering from erosion that could pose flood risk.

They then place rocks on both sites in the Bear Creek area of Merced, working closely with the city of Merced officials to get the job done before the bad weather.

A spokesman for the DWR said: “If unmitigated, high-water conditions could continue to erode the levee and eventually lead to levee failure within the downtown area of Merced.”

The city of Merced is located in California in the San Joaquin Valley.

At the start of the week, people were warned to stay away from the river as the heavy rains pushed the water levels almost to flooding point.
