This is the moment rescuers drill through tiles to rescue a pigeon which had become trapped in a ventilation shaft and remained stuck there for four days.

The unlucky pigeon got stuck in a ventilation shaft in a nine-story residential building located on Belgradskaya street in Russia’s second city of St Petersburg in north-western Russia.

The pigeon reportedly became stuck in the shaft on New Year’s Eve and for the following four days would fly around making noise with its flapping wings.

A local resident who lives on the ground floor had to call a specialised rescue service called Koshkispas in order to solve the situation.

In the video, the rescuers can be seen drilling through the tiles under a sink to reach the bird. A camera shows the trapped pigeon before the rescuer grabs it and pulls it to safety.

The pigeon is then given some water before being released from the window.

Local animal activists commented on the incident: “We got really lucky that the residents of that flat were planning to start a major renovation, so taking the wall down wasn’t an issue.”

Netizen ‘22ilves’ said: “It might be a little thing, such news is a great pleasure to read.”
