This is the moment a young couple attempt to sprint out of the way of a car that had reportedly jumped a red light before it ploughs into the 17-year-old girl and sends her flying.

The teenage victim, identified as Burge Yolbilir, reportedly lost her life following the accident in the district of Gaziemir in the western Turkish province of Izmir.

Reports said that the unnamed driver jumped a red light moments before hitting the teenager and then fled the scene.

Eyewitnesses called the emergency services and paramedics tried to save the girl’s life, but she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Her body was sent to a hospital morgue to undergo an autopsy as the police investigation gets underway.

Meanwhile, the police have managed to identify the motorist and have reportedly detained the suspect.

In the CCTV footage, a young couple is seen crossing the road as the traffic light displays red for oncoming drivers.

Halfway across, they both realise a speeding car is about to hit them and they start sprinting to the other side.

However, the boyfriend manages to cross as his girlfriend is sent flying by the impact of the speeding car.

The investigation continues.
