The German police are on the lookout for a blonde woman suspected of dumping dozens of pet mice in a forest which officers then had to try and roundup, as they had no chance of surviving in the wild on their own.

The rodents, most of which were light-coloured and therefore lacked natural camouflage, which also made them an easy target for predators, were dumped in woodland near the town of Langenfeld in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia on 15th March.

Officers were called to the scene at around 9.30pm after an eyewitness reported seeing a female Volvo driver abandoning the light coloured mice.

The police found the rodents under a tree and collected as many as possible before handing them over to a local animal welfare group along with launching criminal proceedings against the as yet unidentified woman.

As the rodents had only a slim chance of survival in the wild, the officers felt obliged to round up and collected around 60 mice and brought them to the animal shelter in Hilden.

The suspect has been described as being between 30 and 40 years of age, about 1.7 metres tall, with dark blonde, curly hair, and a large figure.

She was spotted wearing sweatpants and a white T-shirt at the time and drove a grey Volvo SUV with license plates registered in the district of Mettmann.
