This is the moment a high school professor helps a teen mum student by holding her baby during an exam to stop the infant from trying to tear up the pages.
The simple gesture by Professor Yan Dias was caught on video as he walked around the quiet classroom while holding the infant at the Jairo de Figueiredo Melo State School in Jordao, Brazil, on 15th April.
Student Francisca Adriana Araujo apparently had no one to watch over her baby, 10-month-old Christopher Lucca, while she took her Portuguese exam.
But Professor Dias came to her rescue as he kindly offered to keep an eye on her son so she could concentrate on the test.
The heart-warming scene was recorded by Samaria Sombra, a school employee, who later posted it on social media.
Users on Instagram saluted the act and praised Dias for his kindness, with one titled ‘valeria.feitoza.007’ saying: “It just proves how much of an excellent teacher he is, and has a good heart.”
Another user, called ‘natansilvasombra’ said: “Beautiful moral lesson, congratulations to the teacher.”
And ‘jurqleiaalenkar’ added: “He was once my classmate at the agronomy college here in Cruzeiro do Sul. He really is a great person, humble, treats everyone well, a wonderful human being.”
Dias said he was surprised by the video’s impact and emphasised that this was not the first time he had held little Christopher to help the student.
The teacher told local media: “I see that many people have empathy for my gesture, which I consider simple, considering that it is part of my routine to walk with little Christopher to Adriana’s classroom every lesson.
“Although I have seen some malicious comments from people who do not know our reality, this will not influence my way of being or discourage Adriana.”
A teacher for 11 years, Dias reportedly moved to Jordao last year (2023) when he met now third-year student Adriana who was already pregnant at the time.
He said that the student never gave up on her studies and continues to make an effort not to miss classes.
To help her, friends and teachers help take care of Christopher during classes. The child’s father reportedly works all day in a local business.
According to Dias, the young mum returned to the classroom just a month after giving birth.
She is forced to bring her son along to school because the city reportedly does not have any daycare centres.
Thankfully, her classmates as well as other teachers have been very understanding and are doing their best to help her, Dias said.
He added: “All the teachers, in fact, have always helped because we see that she is dedicated and has never given up because this phase is a period when many young mothers end up giving up on their studies.
“But Adriana hasn’t, she remains steadfast in school until now, taking Christopher, who is a very nice, very calm boy.”
Adriana said the boy is usually not fussy but on the day of the test, he wanted to play with her exam paper, and she was afraid he would tear it.
She recalled: “He likes to fiddle a little. So the teacher took it so he wouldn’t tear up my exam.
“Then I managed to take the test.”
