This WPC mum-of-two has died after she was run over allegedly by a journalist who then sped off while she was carrying out roadside alcohol test.
Police officers Cinthia Choque, 28, and Santiago Siciliano, 20, were reportedly with two other cops checking drivers in the neighbourhood of Palermo in the capital city of Buenos Aires in eastern Argentina when the tragedy happened.
The 31-year-old driver of the VW Passat, named in local media as journalist Eugenio Veppo, reportedly failed to stop and ran over WPC Cinthia and her colleague Santiago. The WPC died at the scene and Santiago was seriously injured.
One of their colleagues reportedly said she heard the sound of the collision, and saw Cinthia flying through the air like a doll.
They said: “He (Santiago) tried to stand up but the only thing he could move was his head. Cinthia died at my feet, I couldn’t do anything.”
Local media said she was married and the mother of two girls while Santiago is the father of an eight-year-old child.
He has been hospitalised and underwent head and hip surgery and his condition is critical.
His father Daniel, 81, said: “He is unrecognisable. I did not recognise him and he is my son.”
The driver escaped but turned himself in 12 hours later, according to local media.
Veppo spent the night in detention and a judge will decide on the next steps, according to local media.
According to the driver’s lawyer he simply did not see them.
The investigation is ongoing.
