This 23-year-old policewoman has been found with a gunshot wound to her head in mysterious circumstances and local authorities are investigating after she died in hospital.

Local authorities confirmed in a press statement that Anlly Lorena Perez Gomez was found with a gunshot wound to her head at her home in the Santa Catalina neighbourhood of the city of Sincelejo in the department of Sucre in northern Colombia.

Reports say the woman was found at around 5:30 pm on 30th May and then transferred to a hospital where she later died.

Local media reported she had been living with her partner, whose name has not been reported, and had moved to Sincelejo from her home city of Ulloa in the Valle del Cauca department.

The police are investigating the case as it is unclear if it was a suicide or a murder.

Perez Gomez reportedly graduated to become an officer from the Francisco de Paula Santander Police School and had served for more than four years in Sincelejo where she was recognised by her superiors as a valued member of the team.

Local Police Commander Willian Rincon told local media: “We are coordinating ourselves with the National Attorney’s Office to move forward in the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the case.”
