A politician whose husband left her and their three children for a porn star has wished them a beautiful life together, after previously trashing their relationship.
German Free Democratic Party (FDP) politician Karoline Preisler, 51, made headlines when she openly said she was struggling to cope with her ex-husband Hagen Reinhold’s new relationship with former porn star Annina Ucatis-Semmelhaack, 43.
Preisler, who has three children with the 44-year-old Bundestag member, revealed to German media that the two were having an affair when she was still together with Reinhold.
She added: “But I would have found it more respectful if the meetings hadn’t also taken place in my Berlin apartment and in my bed, next to the photos of our children that were on the shelf.”
The bad publicity from the revelations about Preisler’s private life lost her the chance to succeed constitutional judge Andreas Dresen, she revealed.
She said in a statement on Thursday, 8th December: “After a long struggle, I have decided not to continue my candidacy for the office of constitutional judge in the state of Brandenburg.
“Events in my private life and reports about them have recently made headlines.
“To avert damage to the dignity of the office of constitutional judge and my democratic homeland, I am not standing for further election.”
But in a recent interview with German TV channel RTL, she showed a more forgiving side, saying of Ucatis: “I think she’s a very attractive woman.
“And my former partner and his new companion are a beautiful couple.”
When asked whether she thinks their new relationship is predominantly based on sex, Preisler said: “I hope they also discover other things that connect them and lead a very beautiful, happy life.
“Because I will have one too.”
Reinhold and GG-cup Ucatis reportedly met through a mentoring programme run by the FDP-affiliated Friedrich Naumann Foundation.
Ucatis had married real estate billionaire Theodor Semmelhaack, 65, in 2013, but both she and Reinhold insist their former relationships had ended before their liaison.
