Emergency crews found victim Julia Belle, 36, covered in stab wounds at her home in Philippsburg, Baden-Wuerttemberg State, on 18th March.

She was rushed to the nearest hospital but bled to death, despite doctors’ best efforts to save her life.

Police in nearby Karlsruhe arrested her husband, 36-year-old Steffen Belle, on 24th March on suspicion of murder.

Friends told local media how Julia, who was “in the middle of her life”, loved carnival, gastronomy, and enjoyed spending time outdoors.

She reportedly worked at the Karlsruhe city council offices and had only recently returned to her job from maternity leave.

The seemingly picture-perfect couple had two children, aged two and four, and appeared to live in harmony prior to the incident.

They had tied the knot in 2018 and travelled to a tropical island for their honeymoon.

One of their neighbours told German media: “It is unthinkable that something like this could have happened here in the neighbourhood.”

Mayor Stefan Martus, who worked alongside the victim, said: “It’s hard to believe that you have to experience something so terrible so close to you.”

Following Belle’s arrest, Karlsruhe Police Headquarters press spokesperson Dennis Krull said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “The man is strongly suspected of having killed his wife on Saturday afternoon in Philippsburg by stabbing her several times with a knife.

“According to the preliminary autopsy results, the woman bled to death as a result of the violence.

“At the request of the Karlsruhe public prosecutor’s office, the responsible judge at the district court has issued an arrest warrant today (24th March) on suspicion of manslaughter.

“The criminal police investigations into the background and motive are ongoing.”
