A Brazilian nightclub owner dubbed ‘Barbie’ because of her glamorous looks has been busted on child prostitution charges for pimping out teenagers.
The suspect has been named as Samara Nascimento Nobrega, 34, aka ‘Barbie’, and she was arrested in Parnaiba, a city in the north-eastern Brazilian state of Piaui last week after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly forced to prostitute herself at one of her nightclubs.
The minor, who has not been named, was reportedly paid BRL 200 (GBP 31) for every customer she had sex with, according to investigators.
Nascimento Nobrega reportedly owns two nightclubs and she was arrested while talking to an unnamed boyfriend.
She was charged with prostituting minors, with both she and her boyfriend also charged with stealing electricity from the grid.
The woman owns two nightclubs on the coast of Piaui, one in Parnaiba and the other in Luis Correia, according to local media, and she is being investigated for prostituting teenagers at her establishments.
Investigations were launched after an exchange of information between the Civil Police in Piaui and the authorities in the state of Para.
Williams Pinheiro, the regional delegate of Parnaiba, said: “We received information that there was an investigation in Para regarding possible teenagers who left Belem, in Para, and were being managed by a person here in our city.
“We started our investigation and identified the houses where the minors were and they were busted at ‘Sitio da Barbie’.”
Investigators went to the nightclub and found an unnamed 17-year-old allegedly prostituting herself. They immediately arrested the owner of the nightclub, ‘Barbie’s’ boyfriend.
But ‘Barbie’ was nowhere to be found. She was later arrested on charges of child prostitution.
Pinheiro said: “A preventive arrest warrant was served against her for the crime of prostitution of minors under 18 and for theft of energy.”
Nascimento Nobrega reportedly ran for public office in 2020 and got 68 votes, becoming a substitute councillor.
The investigation is ongoing.
