This is the moment a petrol station worker hits a thief with a fuel hose after he tried to rob him before battering the suspect’s car as he flees.

The incident took place in the municipality of Nezahualcoyotl, in the central Mexican state of Mexico and was recorded by a CCTV camera at the petrol station.

In the video, a driver can be seen getting out of their car in a mask and walking up to the pump attendant.

As the attendant picks up one of the pumps the driver walks up to him and tries to steal cash from his pocket.

The worker reacts by hitting the masked driver with the pump’s nozzle and the scared thief then runs around the car to get back in.

The attendant, who has not been named in reports, then begins whipping the nozzle into the car’s windscreen before the driver manages to flee in the vehicle.

Local media report the thief has been identified by the authorities and it is believed another person was travelling in the vehicle. The car’s licence plate has been identified by investigators.

No arrests have been reported and the investigation is ongoing.
