The Gill Brothers gas station in the town of Dublin, Pulaski County, Virginia, USA, won an incredible USD 50,000 (GBP 42,248) after a lottery ticket they sold hit the USD 161 million (GBP 136 million) jackpot on Saturday, 4th March 2023.

The bonus is reportedly given to Virginia Lottery retailers for tickets worth USD 5 million (GBP 4.2 million) or more.

Virginia Lottery Executive Director Kelly T. Gee reportedly handed the oversized check to station owner Andy Gill on Monday, 6th March 2023.

Gee is quoted as saying in a statement from Virginia Lottery obtained by Newsflash: “The Virginia Lottery is proud to partner with local businesses like Gill Brothers to sell tickets and generate funds for K-12 education in the Commonwealth.

“With the Virginia Lottery, lucky players win, businesses win, and schools win.”

The ticket that matched winning numbers – 10, 16, 18, 40, and 66 – along with the Powerball number 16, is reportedly the fourth-largest prize ever won in the Virginia lottery.

It is the second time that a Powerball jackpot has been won in the state.

The lucky winner, who reportedly still has not collected their prize, has a total of 180 days from the drawing to claim the jackpot.

Additionally, the person will have to choose between a one-time lump sum of USD 81.9 million (GBP 69 million) or the full amount in annual payments over a period of 30 years.

Virginia Lottery officials said: “Powerball drawings are held at 10.59pm, Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.

“The odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 25.

“All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia.

“In Fiscal Year 2022, the Lottery raised more than USD 779 million [GBP 658 million] for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.”
