People Light Hundreds Of Firecrackers Around Brand-New Car To Celebrate Purchase

The unusual video shows a group of people surrounding a brand-new car with firecrackers and setting them on fire to celebrate the purchase.

Recorded in a field in China’s south-western province of Sichuan, the footage captures four individuals preparing to light the firecrackers narrowly placed around the white vehicle, apparently a Haval F7 SUV, on the afternoon of 2nd March.

The astonishing scene followed as a part of a traditional ritual, where individuals purchasing a new car partake in the custom of setting off firecrackers to celebrate the purchase.

Just moments into the clip, they can be seen running to the side as the firecrackers send a massive cloud of smoke billowing into the air.

Chinese media revealed that the vehicle did not suffer any damage during the strange incident.

The video triggered many reactions after it posted on TikTok’s sister app for China, and on the microblogging website Weibo, where it reached more than 7,000 views.

Weibo user ‘Goose Media Peak’ said: “What kind of custom is this? Aren’t car owners worried about their cars being blown up? Totally vulgar! IQ is overdue!”

Then user ‘Mr Drop-off’ commented: “This behaviour is why burning firecrackers is prohibited.”

And ‘Deny 30660’ added: “This feels more expensive than the car itself.”
