These are the startling images taken after a bus full of passengers plunged 25 feet into a drainage pond.

The images were taken near the town of Chaksu in the Jaipur district of the Indian state of Rajasthan as the bus was on its way to the city of Kota.

Local media report the bus had been travelling across a bridge on National Highway 12 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it plunged 25 feet down a gorge.

The vehicle then fell into a drainage pond at the bottom of the gorge and in the images the stranded passengers can be seen sat on the side of the bus to keep themselves out of the water.

Reports state there were around 30 passengers on board the bus at the time of the accident, six of whom were injured.

Three of those injured are reportedly in a serious condition and have been taken to the Sawai Man Singh Government Hospital in Jaipur.

Civil defence and police officers were called to the scene and are said to have worked with local residents to help bring the passengers to safety.

The bus was lifted out of the drainage pond by a crane, according to local media.

It is unclear if an investigation has been launched into the incident.
