This is the shocking moment a 48-year-old paraglider loses control in high winds and drops between two apartment blocks onto a high voltage power line with a bang on the street below.

The incident took place on Silvio Picanco Avenue in the neighbourhood of Charitas in the city of Niteroi in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the news site Metropoles, the paraglider, Jose A. de Lacerda, departed from the Niteroi neighbourhood of Sao Francisco and was planning to land on Charitas Beach.

However, before he could reach the beach, the man lost control in high winds and plummeted to the street. His equipment came to rest on a tree and a high-voltage utility pole on the pavement.

In the footage, the 48-year-old man is seen flying close to the top of one building before strong winds apparently send him off course while trying to pass over the opposite apartment block.

The paraglider finds himself losing altitude between the two buildings and soon plummets to the ground at speed, apparently landing hard on the pavement.

His paragliding equipment comes to rest on the nearby tree and utility pole as he screams in pain on the ground.

Two residents run over to help the man on the ground, who is seen moving his arms and legs in the footage.

The paraglider was taken to the Hospital Estadual Azevedo Lima for treatment in a conscious state, and there have been no further updates on his current condition.
