This is the moment a driver crashes after blocking his steering wheel with a water bottle to go sit in the back seat with his pal.

The incident was filmed on an unspecified Romanian motorway on 17th November and the motorist reportedly ended up in a roadside ditch.

The driver, who has not yet been identified by the police, blocked his steering wheel with a water bottle so he could climb in the back and film the reckless stunt.

Europol, which shared the video on social media, said there was another man in the vehicle who was apparently aware and did not ask the car owner to stop.

In the footage, the suspect can be heard saying: “Let me show you something, yes, forget about how they drive here, I’m in the back. There is no one behind the wheel.

“Obviously we are on the motorway. You know who is driving? The water bottle!”

The footage shows the vehicle travelling along the road as it slowly begins pulling to the right.

The video then shows the car veering to the right and coming off the road before coming to an abrupt stop before the footage ends.

According to the Romanian police, 2,586 road accidents classified as “serious” were registered in the first seven months of this year, leaving 932 people dead and 2,004 people injured.

The primary cause of accidents was speeding.

The police investigation into the latest incident continues.
