This is the moment a suspected drink-driver loses control of his Ford Mustang during a turn and ploughs into a group of pedestrians before falling down some steps.

The unnamed driver, who has been arrested on charges of driving while under the influence, had been driving for five hours from 3am to 8am shortly before the accident occurred, police say.

CCTV images from the city of Shenzhen in China’s southern Guangdong Province captured the motorist’s black Ford Mustang coming around a bend at speed and oversteering.

The vehicle slides towards the pavement where the group of six pedestrians is then struck without warning. Two women are hit directly by the Mustang, while the four others were swept to the ground, the video shows.

According to witnesses, one of the two women was pinned underneath the vehicle and sadly declared dead by paramedics. She has been identified as a factory worker surnamed Xu, aged 40.

The five surviving victims were taken to hospital for treatment.

Footage of the aftermath of the crash shows a man suspected to be the driver sitting on the pavement next to the crashed car.

Witnesses said he was seen sobbing while waiting for police to arrive.

The unnamed driver has tested positive for driving under the influence, but authorities say they are awaiting the suspect’s toxicology results in order to press formal charges.

The exact version and generation of the Ford Mustang is currently unclear.
